Barb Schmid, from Felton, PA plays fiddle in a variety of styles, including old-time, celtic and french canadian. Barb graced us with her playing in 2013, graciously assisting last year's master fiddle clinician, Todd Clewell. She and Todd perform and record together regularly, together producing a tightly woven rhythmic and melodic journey through dance tunes, waltzes and charming duet harmonies. We are delighted to have Barb as our master fiddle clinician this year.
Barb will focus on teaching a tunes & address aspects of bowing. Her approach will depend on the needs & interests of the students. The tunes will come from a variety of sources (Kentucky, Virginia, Oklahoma...), mostly dance tunes that feature some syncopation. Barb will teach by ear, without handouts, & recommends that students bring recording devices (with fresh batteries). Barb wants students to develop the ability to translate the rhythm & notes of the tune(not just the notes) into their own personal playing styles.
