Jeff Norman

Jeff Norman is a clawhammer banjo player currently living just outside Philadelphia, PA. He grew up in North Carolina, and learned to play traditional Old-tIme tunes while living in Southwest VA, where he was also a founding member of the Happy Hollow String Band. Later, Jeff started demonstrating banjos for Elderly Instruments on youtube and is often recognized as "that Elderly guy" at festivals. More-recently, Jeff has played both banjo and guitar in a variety of pickup bands with regional fiddlers, including Dave Husic, Max Rainwater, and Brian Vollmer, and has a banjo/fiddle duet called Banjo Playdate.
Master Class Description:
Jeff Norman plays a "notey" (but not "melodic") rhythmic style of clawhammer banjo. In this workshop, he'll walk you through how he arranges a fiddle tune from start to finish with the goal of teaching you how to grab as many notes as you'd like without losing the groove! Jeff's Masterclass will focus on the concept of "right hand stride:" first he'll define what it is, then he'll show you how to put it in practice. Finally, Jeff will show you how and when to break right hand stride, thereby giving you several options for matching the fiddle note for note!
